Why Do Blackheads Keep Coming Back? The Importance of Keeping Your Pores Clean

Blackheads and whiteheads are among the most common concerns I see in clients of all ages. Many people cleanse their skin every day and use numerous skincare products but are surprised that their pores remain congested.

The reason is simple: cleansing the surface of the skin is not always enough to remove material that has accumulated inside the pores.

What Causes Congested Pores?

Oil, dead skin cells, makeup, sunscreen, and other debris can accumulate inside a pore. When this material remains trapped, it can develop into blackheads and whiteheads.

Some people naturally produce more oil or are simply more prone to congestion than others. Hormonal changes, skincare products, lifestyle, and age can also influence how easily pores become clogged.

Can Congestion Make Pores Look Larger?

A pore filled with accumulated material can become more noticeable because the buildup physically expands its appearance.

Skin also changes as we age. As firmness and elasticity gradually decrease, enlarged or stretched-looking pores may become more noticeable.

This is one reason I encourage clients who are prone to blackheads and whiteheads to begin taking care of congestion while they are younger rather than waiting until years of buildup have occurred.

Why Professional Extractions Are Different

A Deep Extraction Facial is very different from simply cleansing, exfoliating, applying a mask, and moisturizing the skin.

At Los Angeles Skincare, the emphasis is on carefully examining the skin and manually cleaning congested pores where appropriate. Stubborn blackheads and whiteheads require time, patience, and proper technique.

After the pores have been cleaned, the remainder of the facial is customized according to the condition and needs of the skin.

Should You Have Extractions Regularly?

There isn't one schedule that's right for everyone.

Someone with significant congestion may initially need professional cleansing more frequently, while another person may only need occasional maintenance. The goal is to prevent excessive buildup rather than waiting until the pores become severely congested.

With more than 35 years of professional skincare experience, I customize each treatment according to what I see in the client's skin rather than following the same routine for everyone.

Los Angeles Skincare serves clients from Mar Vista, Venice, Marina del Rey, Playa Vista, Culver City and West Los Angeles.

If blackheads and clogged pores keep returning despite your home skincare routine, professional deep cleansing may be the missing step.
