Acne

acne is a common skin condition caused by changes in the skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and it’s associated sebaceous (oil) gland via male hormone stimulation that mostly starts between the ages of 13-18. There is also adult acne which starts at a much older age.

Acne is characterized by noninflammatory follicular papules (whitehead) or comedones (blackhead) and by inflammatory whiteheads, pustules (pus), and a lump in it’s more severe forms.

Acne vulgaris affects the areas of skin with the densest population of oil glands; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in noninflammatory forms. Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, blemishes, spots, zits, or acne.
